YOU DON’T NEED treatment for a ganglion cyst unless it is painful, unsightly, or limits your hand function. These cysts are lumps found at the top of the wrist or fingers, and sometimes on the palm side of the writes or fingers, and are usually painless. The cysts can become bigger or smaller depending on how the fluid inside may drain back into the joint or tendon sheath.
Dr. Harris can drain the fluid from the cyst and have you wear a splint. However, by surgically removing the cyst you have the best chance that it won’t come back. This operation is performed on an outpatient basis and only requires a local anesthetic.
