Scars

DR. HARRIS can help you improve the appearance of a scar. Burns or other injuries may form unsightly hypertrophic scars and scar contractures. These scars can be uncomfortable, distort normal anatomy and restrict normal movement. While no scar can be removed completely, Dr. Harris can make the area look less obvious by using certain medications or surgical procedures known as scar revisions.

Insurance usually doesn’t cover cosmetic procedures; however, if scar revision is performed to minimize scarring from an injury or to improve your ability to function, it may be covered in part. Check your policy to be sure.

Surgery and recovery

Scar revision involves removing the scar and using a variety of techniques to make the scar less noticeable. These techniques include simple excisions, skin flaps (such as a “Z-plasty”), skin grafting and tissue-expansion procedures. Dr. Harris is an expert in all of these techniques.

The operation may be done under local or general anesthesia, depending on the nature of the scar. Many times, the procedure is performed in Dr. Harris’ facility.

Don’t worry. Most of the time we can help you make that scar look much better. Call us!
